First, realize how your massage business cards are used. Most of the time, your business cards are provided to someone who has already met you. If you have done your job, you have already verbally told your client why you are unique and a good choice for them. Your massage business card at this point is mostly a calling card, with your contact information. But what else could your massage business cards do? Think about it from the perspective of the three ways to grow your business. You can develop different business cards, with different marketing directions, on the back of your cards. Let's say you want to use your massage business cards to get new clients. Then on the back of your card could print your Unique Selling Proposition, or a risk reversal offer (guarantee), or a call to action, directing them to your web site for a coupon. Any of these things could help get a new client in the door. And, on another card, to get your existing clients to come back more often, have a place to write their next appointment. Your Next Appointment Day_______________Time__________ To encourage a regular massage plan, you can have several lines suggesting ongoing appointments. Next Appointment Day________Time________ You may also want to include your cancellation policy on the back of the card: We require a 24hr appointment cancellation notice. If your client does not reschedule before they leave, you could have a card that gives them an incentive to call in the future, a discount, or direct them to your website for a free massage contest, etc. In the section about referral programs I will also suggest that you develop a business card that has your referral program printed on the back. More on this great use of your business cards later. And, for your third business growth area, you could have business cards that provide free upgrades to more expensive services, or discounts on products. You could send these out in a welcome letter, or with a newsletter. Once they have experienced your aromatherapy massage, they will likely pay more and get that treatment again next time. Even if the back of your business card is blank, there are lots of things you can do to promote your business. Think about some of the problems people have after they have met you. Help them solve these problems. One of the biggest problems people have is that they forget just how good it feels. So after a client comes, ask them, how their massage felt. When they tell you, write it on the back of a blank card. "I feel amazing, very relaxed and happy." Now hand this card to them, and say "Don't forget this". This will make a positive impression on them. They will keep this card, and when they see it they will remember and reschedule more often. What about if a potential client dropped into your office, talked with you, did not schedule, and decided to think about it? You know from our previous section on risk reversal that they are probably a bit unsure. So some form of risk reversal on the card could really help. You could hand write on the back, $10 off your first massage. And hand this to them, saying, "I see you are still unsure about scheduling, so when you are ready bring in this card for $10 off." So your business business cards can be adapted to provide benefits to your clients, instead of just calling cards. Let's start though with massage business card 101. You must have your business cards professionally designed and printed! Why? Have you ever been handed a dollar bill and it just did not feel right? You are so familiar with how the dollar bill feels that you immediately know if something is not right. This is equally true about your business card. People are used to handling business cards. They know the look and feel of a professional business card. Design and print it yourself and you are just letting them know you are not very serious about your business. And that is the opposite of Client Problem Solving Marketing. Let's talk about design. If you have professional looking logo, then that alone will likely provide enough to establish the graphic look and feel of your business. You will probably not need any more pictures or graphics, except for small items needed to separate words, etc. Simple is good. To view some massage business card samples, and massage logo samples, click here. And what about content? Just like your logo, the fonts should be professional and very clean and easy to read. Stay away from super creative looking fonts on your business card. The front should include:
If you have developed a good Unique Selling Proposition that is short, this can be included on the card front. But only if it is short and concise. If you do include a U.S.P., consider having it as a headline on the top of the card. It is important not to crowd the front to much. Having empty space is good. A business card is really too small to be a very educational marketing tool. If you want more words on your card, you could have cards made that fold in half. So essentially you get twice as much space to use. It could act like a mini brochure. One last note about the look and feel of your massage business cards - keep a consistent image in all of your printed materials. If you are happy with a specific font design, use this consistently on your letterhead, your newsletter, and possible even your advertisements. It is always good to keep your costs low, but don't trade a professional look and feel in your card printing for a little savings. You can get your massage business cards printed at a local printer, or through an internet based company. Locally, you will often spend more, but that extra cost can easily be offset if you develop a good relationship with the printer. They will send you clients. And you will be circulating your money in your local community. But do consider what is best for your situation, by comparing the great prices and services offered by the internet companies. The internet companies have pre-made templates you can use to create your card. But I don't recommend them. Use your own professionally designed card, and just have them print it. Have your local designer provide you with a business card, envelope and letterhead design. Then when you get your cards printed on-line, download the files in the custom card option. You can also have your designer give the information directly to the card printer. An online printer that is very popular is www.vistaprint.com If you decide to use Vista print I recommend you upgrade to a business card you pay for, without their logo on the back. Their prices are excellent compared to your local printer. Keep in mind you get what you pay for. The quality has not always been the best with Vista Print. Probably start out with 500 or less massage business cards, if you are a single therapist. You will likely want to change something on the card before you run out. So don't get too many. OK. Now that you have your massage business cards, use them. Always carry some with you. Get in the habit of giving them out to everyone you meet, everyday. Particularly after you have already told them your USP in person. Leave cards in appropriate places in your community. You should expect to hand out 500 pretty quickly. If you are not going through them quickly, start thinking of ways to increase your exposure. Keeping the costs down on your massage business cards will help you use more of them. Having massage business cards is not optional. The next most essential piece of marketing that you should also consider essential is a client newsletter - the most powerful marketing a therapist can do - Your Massage Newsletter.
