Now that you have these things you want to write up your USP statement. Make it as short as is possible while telling everything you need to. Remember to focus on your client, in terms about and for them when marketing massage.

Be patient with this process. It is very valuable, but it also takes a bit of consistent thought and work over time to really get it right. But once you get it, you will see huge results.

For example, take this: You are at a network meeting of other businesses. You each get a chance to introduce yourself to the entire three hundred people with a little one minute speech. There is another massage therapist who speaks to the group before you. They describe themselves like this:

"Hi. I am Janet. I am a massage therapist with a new office over on North Street. I studied at the Utah School of Massage, and I enjoy to do relaxation massage and treatment work. I would be happy to work with anyone here. Thanks for your time."

After a couple of other people you speak.

"Hello. My name is Martha Blanc, and I own Stress Solution Touch Therapies. I offer a 100% money back guaranteed stress relief massage plan. My services help you to become more relaxed and healthy, so that your family life and work is more enjoyable and happy. Scheduling is easy by calling, or using my automated on-line appointment book. Go to my web page for a free report on 7 ways you can reduce your stress. www.stress-soltion-massage.com. You will also find monthly specials and coupons you can print. Right now the online special is a free 1/2 hour massage. It expires tomorrow, but I will be available after the meeting to book anyone who wants to take advantage of this special."

Wow - that is marketing your massage! With this little one minute U.S.P. talk you targeted a market of stressed out people. You spoke about the benefits they will receive in terms they understand and want. Since they are stressed out people you figured out how to make it easy in their busy lives to schedule. And you have given them an incentive to take action, by visiting your web site, getting a free report, and printing a valuable coupon. And you enticed them into action today, by creating a sense of urgency, because the coupon will expire tomorrow.

A USP statement can be much simpler though. In an advertisement the therapists above could just say:

Stress relief massage plan - 100% guaranteed results. Easy online scheduling. Visit www.stress-soulution-massage.com for a free report showing 7 ways to reduce your stress.

Your unique benefit can be very simple. Maybe you have identified a group of very busy office professionals in your area that want massage but don't have much free time. That USP could be:

Your office, my massage table. No wasted travel time. 100% guaranteed to lower your stress, pain, and improve your quality of life at work. Flexible appointments.

If you have a way to get this message in front of your target market, and you have correctly identified a problem that you can solve, and this service is unique, you are going to get new clients easily.

Successful businesses use their USP to set themselves apart:
FedEx: When it absolutely has to be there the next day.
Dominos: delivered in 30 minutes or it's free.
Nordstrom: lifetime returns without questions.

When marketing massage if you have a great USP, and clearly distinguish yourself, your clients will remember it. Your clients will use your USP to explain you to their friends. So make it so that anyone can remember it. Without an easy USP statement that they can tell their friends, how will they describe you? They will have to think something up themselves. But if they know a USP, it is easy for them. And better yet, they will feel special coming to you because your USP is so clear and they know exactly why you are special.

Over time you will continue to develop your business around your USP and establish yourself as the best choice for your target market.

One last note about your USP. Be as specific as you can when marketing massage. If you offer a guarantee, state exactly what it is. If you have a powerful benefit, explain it very clearly, with specific details, in words your clients can understand and desire. The more clear and detailed you are the better your USP will work.
