Below is a fun graphic tool for seeing that what you focus on (your limiting beliefs) changes what you are able to see. The pink dots represent all the opportunities available to you. The center plus sign represents a limiting belief you may currently have. Hold your eyes on that plus sign. At first you will see a green dot that starts to hide your pink opportunities. If you keep very focused on that black plus sign all of the pink opportunity dots will disappear and you will only be aware of the one, single green option.
Do you know what is amazing about this? There is no green dot. And the pink dots don't disappear. It is just your limiting perception that makes it so you can't see all the opportunity around you. Those opportunities exist, even if you can't see them. Believe this. I hate to say it, but one of the most common mistakes massage business owners make is not recognizing that their own limiting beliefs are the biggest things holding them back. Limiting beliefs about money, about what marketing is, about the world, about what they deserve, about giving and receiving and much more. Why do I hate to say it? Because, what a pain! Limiting beliefs are very personal, difficult to see, understand and change. Who wants to admit that their own personal beliefs may be the reasons why they are not succeeding? It is so much easier to blame outside things. You must acknowledge that your ingrained belief systems are very powerful. They are responsible for how you see the world around you, and dictate how you respond. You guessed it; we have just walked into Tony Robbins land - for good reason (although there are better sources of help them him). Becoming aware of your own belief structures, of what inside you may be holding you back, is not easy. Getting outside help and tools to discover what your limiting beliefs are, and how to change them, is well worth doing. You may want read Stephen R. Covey's book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Another good resource is the Rich Dad Poor Dad books by Robert Kiyosaki. And there are many other good authors on this subject you could use. Remember at the beginning when I said that all the opportunities you need to achieve your dreams become available to you at the moment of your dream? Very often the opportunities life hands you are very smart. They know you better than you know yourself. To achieve your goal, very often you need to learn about yourself, and so the road you tread may be a little crooked, and not appear to be going exactly toward what you want. But you will find you have to learn these things to achieve your goals. In this way, your business life can become more of a spiritual path. At least it keeps me a little more sane to think so!
